I got the Villiers engine running today with an old Dellorto ME series carburetor. It seems to run pretty well considering.

Here’s another small side project. This is a Villiers Mk25 2-stroke engine. 55mm bore and 62mm stroke (147cc).

It should only need a carburetor to run.  I’ve replaced the plug wire, cleaned and set the points and adjusted the timing to factory settings.

To match the seat post I made a new handlebar stem. This one is an adjustable “Major Taylor” style stem. I started off with an old mtb stem and a handlebar extender from the same bike.

This is the basic layout, the parts from above and a section of the handlebar I made the seat post out of.

Everything is welded except the flat plates that cover the ends.  Everything still needs to be filed and sanded smooth.  The picture shows generic road bars, but I’ll be using a set of track handlebars or Soma Major Taylor bars.

I  built  myself a “Lucky 7″ style seat post tonight for this bike I’m putting together on the cheap. It uses a 7/8 post so I cut up and old pair of handlebars for the tubing. I went with a nice looking vintage style, as found on early track bikes.

I built a high tech jig.

and this is the finished result.

The fork ends look better without the fender mounts, but check out those sorry spot welds! I’ll probably have the ends brazed too which should be stronger and look better.
